Millfield
Best Sports School in the UK
Millfield is a leading co-educational boarding and day school in the UK, located in 240 acres in Street, Somerset. From its foundation in 1935 through to the present day the school has inspired generations of students to immerse themselves in The Millfield Way to discover their brilliance.
Sport
Millfield has been named the Best Sports School in the UK for 11 out of 12 years. Millfield provides students with a lifelong love of sport, whether they are aspiring sportsmen and women, or just partaking socially or recreationally. Students can choose from 30 different sports, led by 14 full-time Heads of Sport, and more than 200 sports staff including five Olympians. The school has 300 students at regional standard each year and 60 international youth representatives at any one time. Training fits into students’ timetables, with early morning, longer lunchtimes and after school sessions. A small number of students go on to compete at professional, Olympic or Paralympic level. Old Millfieldians have been at every Olympic Games since 1956 and would’ve placed 18th on the medal table at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Students benefit from using world-class, industry-leading facilities onsite which include an equestrian centre, Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor cricket and golf centres, athletics track, multiple sports pitches, fencing salle and tennis centre.

Students have the opportunity to enrich their academic learning with a vast range of different professional talks, academic competitions, self-led presentations and essays. At Millfield, students can achieve highly in academics, sports and arts.
Millfield celebrates neurodiversity. The school was founded by Boss Meyer with six Indian princes who all had dyslexia. 40% of students are dyslexic, double the national average, and students are supported by 11 Learning Support Centre (LSC) teachers and a further 250 teachers are LSC trained.
“…proof of the driving up of academic standards, top grades, fulfilling of academic potential and the destruction of Millfield’s persistent (but mistaken) reputation as being academically lightweight...” – Good Schools Guide Review 2025.
Opportunities
Millfield offers vast, unparalleled and unrivalled opportunities. The school was awarded Co-Educational School of the Year in 2024, recognised for their ‘determinedly inclusive approach in every area of education’.
The school is alive with the arts with over 75+ performances per year, 30 music ensembles rehearsing each week, 20 drama performances, 35 different dance classes and annual art exhibitions. Millfield gives every student the opportunity to participate whilst developing personal skills and a cultural appreciation for the arts. Arts facilities include a 450-seat theatre, 300-seat concert hall, dance studios, recording studios, art gallery and sculpture trail.
20% of students go to US universities and other prestigious universities around the world. In 2025, students have been awarded scholarships worth more than $11 million at Princeton, Cornell, Rhode Island and Coker Universities. Other destinations include Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities and top arts universities including Imperial College London and Berklee College of Music.
Boarding
Millfield is a full boarding school and is home to 960 boarders, housed in 19 boarding houses situated on campus or within a short drive. Each boarding house has a resident Housemaster or Housemistress and support team. The boarding environment encourages students to live their lives to the full in as many spheres as possible, allowing individuality to flourish. All of our boarders (around 75% of total students) are full boarders and there is a vibrant weekend programme of activities. There is only one fixed exeat per year, and boarding houses remain full at weekends.
“The Millfield support is beyond anything we have experienced elsewhere and the professionalism and level of all staff is exceptional. Millfield for us as parents has been a great experience and we wholeheartedly recommend the school.” - Parent
